The second premiere of the Youth Theatre’s 62nd season is a production of the play “The Marriage” by Witold Gombrowicz, one of the pioneers of new Polish literature. The performance is being directed by Adomas Juška, one of the most prominent directors of the youngest generation.

“The Marriage” is the dream of Henryk, a soldier at the frontline. In his dream, he returns home but finds his former world deformed, devastated, and distorted. The wedding ritual represents his attempt to restore form to himself and his surroundings, yet an eternal discord persists between man and form.
At the heart of Gombrowicz’s play lies precisely this conflict between man and form – a conflict that, within Henryk’s dream, assumes increasingly strange, mysterious, and playful guises. Henryk creates the dream, the dream creates Henryk; the action creates itself, and the people create one another. This dream is an expression of the horror experienced by a dehumanized individual, yet simultaneously a mystery of the creative power of a human being – a mystery in which a mass for the future is celebrated amidst the ruins of the past.
Adomas Juška (1996) is a Lithuanian theatre director of the young generation. A student of Eimuntas Nekrošius, he has graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in 2019. A. Juška made his debut on the professional stage in his third year of studies, directing the performance “Schweik” at the Youth Theatre based on the famous novel by J. Hašek. His successful debut was followed by four performances that have largely shaped the director’s creative style. A. Juška often chooses complex, large-scale works of classical and contemporary literature: J. L. Borges, M. de Cervantes, B. M. Koltès and other works. His style is characterized as poetic, the director pays special attentiveness to details, the performances use complex rhythm, symbols and metaphors, the director also prioritizes action, rhytm and atmosphere over text and words. A. Juška has won several “Golden Stage Cross” awards as the best director of the year (“Western Pier” by B. M. Koltès at the Klaipėda Drama Theatre in 2023 and “The Melancholy of Resistance” by László Krasznahorkai at the Juozas Miltinis drama theatre in 2025).
