Šis spektaklis – vieno įtakingiausių XX a. rašytojų, brito Aldous’o Huxley’io knygos „Puikus naujas pasaulis“ pirmoji inscenizacija Lietuvoje.

1932-aisiais pasirodžiusiame svarbiausiame savo gyvenimo kūrinyje Huxley’is išpranašavo bauginantį ateities pasaulį. Šiandien „Puikus naujas pasaulis“ skamba kaip pranašiška XXI a. pradžios antiutopija.

Mūsų laikų puikus naujas pasaulis – tai naujas visuomeninis mąstymas, pagrįstas civilizacijos pasiekimais, verčiančiais siekti gerovės, laimės ir socialinio stabilumo, aukojant asmens laisvę ir individualumą. Globaliame pasaulyje tokį mąstymą formuoja valstybė, kartu su didžiosiomis korporacijomis išrandanti ekonominės gerovės modelius be prievartos kontroliuoti ir valdyti mases. Visuotinai diegiama lengvos laimės ir malonumų minkštoji galia užkariauja didžiąją visuomenės dalį tiek demokratinėse, tiek totalitarinėse valstybėse. Šitaip naujame pasaulyje žmonėms skiepijamą meilę savo vergijai, pasak Huxley’io, galima įtvirtinti įvykdžius gilią, vidinę revoliuciją žmonių protuose ir kūnuose. Revoliucija prasideda nuo pat gimimo ir vaikystės. Formuojama puikaus naujo pasaulio visuomenė skirstoma į išrinktųjų elito ir „runkelių“ grupes. Paauglystėje skiepijamas beskausmio ir bejausmio darbo ir malonumų kultas. Bet koks savarankiško mąstymo daigas išraunamas. Skausmą mokoma malšinti somos narkotiku. Paradoksalu, kad tokios visuomenės atstovai mano, jog gyvena ir veikia savo laisva valia. Aprašydamas puikų naują pasaulį, Huxley’is iš ano laiko ragina priešintis jam, ieškant autoritetingų sąjungininkų senajame pasaulyje. Pavyzdžiui, tokių kaip Shakespeare’as… 

Pirmą kartą Lietuvos scenoje interpretuodamas Aldous’o Huxley’io kūrybą, G. Varnas gvildena esminius jauno žmogaus pasirinkimo šiandieniame pasaulyje klausimus. Anot režisieriaus, Huxley’io distopija kelia bauginančią dilemą tarp laimės ir laisvės. Naujajame pasaulyje šios sąvokos tampa antagonistėmis. O jeigu taip, tai koks žmogus iš dviejų pasirinkimų – laimė ar laisvė – rinksis pastarąją? Mes nesame taip toli nuo bauginančio „Puikaus naujo pasaulio“. Vartojimo, Pramogų ir Gerovės visuomenės neišvengiamai ugdo nuo tų dalykų priklausomus žmones…
